The closest station to Buckingham Palace is London Victoria, the terminus for regular services to and from south London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent, as well as for trains to Gatwick Airport. From Victoria you can walk to Buckingham Palace in just 10 minutes – turn left as you leave the station, then turn right and continue down Buckingham Palace Road. Alternatively, take buses 11, 211, C1 or C10 from outside the station, alighting on Buckingham Palace Road.

About Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace has been the official residence of the British royal family since 1837, and offers three experiences for visitors: the Queen’s Gallery, which houses the royal art collection; the Royal Mews, which houses opulent state coaches; and the State Rooms inside the palace itself, which are open for a limited period every summer.

In the Queen’s Gallery, visitors can explore a rotating selection of one of the world’s most important collections of Western fine art, dating back to the Tudors and including many works by Old Masters.

The Royal Mews displays a range of spectacular coaches, including the 18^th century Gold State Coach used for coronations. You’ll also see the livery worn by coachmen, and some of the horses used to pull the carriages.

Perhaps best of all – though sadly only open in summer – are the State Rooms, a series of ornate reception rooms that includes the Throne Room. The guided tour is a rare chance to see inside one of London’s most famous and important buildings.
